Quick answer

Tiingo serves curated end-of-day US stock and ETF prices back decades (raw and adjusted), IEX intraday bars, crypto and FX over REST and WebSocket, authenticated with a token. The free plan allows 50 requests per hour, 1,000 per day and 500 unique symbols per month; Power is about $30/month for personal use.

Endpoints a strategy uses

EndpointReturns
/tiingo/daily/{ticker}/prices?startDate=Daily (or resampleFreq=weekly) stock bars, raw and adjusted
/iex/{ticker}/prices?resampleFreq=1hourIntraday bars from IEX
/tiingo/crypto/prices?tickers=btcusd&resampleFreq=1dayCrypto bars aggregated across exchanges
/tiingo/newsTagged news (paid add-on)

Stock rows carry both raw (open, close) and adjusted (adjOpen, adjClose) fields. Backtests should use adjusted prices so splits and dividends do not appear as crashes or jumps.

Limits and plans

The free plan is metered per hour and per day, and by the number of distinct symbols requested each month. The Power plan (about $30/month) raises all three dramatically. Commercial internal use starts around $50/month, and redistribution needs a separate licence.

Use Tiingo in AlgoGP

Open a project, go to the APIs & keys tab and, under Platforms, pick Tiingo as the market data source (market_data.py). The choice is saved to config.json as a new strategy version:

{
  "platforms": {
    "data": "tiingo",
    "broker": "alpaca"
  }
}
In-app backtests always use AlgoGP’s normalized history so results stay comparable; this choice decides what backtest.py and live.py connect to when you run the exported code.
