Deribit API guide

If a strategy needs crypto options data (implied volatility, Greeks, order books) Deribit is the first place to look. Its JSON-RPC API is consistent across HTTP and WebSocket, and its public market data is free and keyless.

Quick answer

Deribit is the main venue for crypto options, with BTC and ETH options, futures and perpetuals. Its API is JSON-RPC 2.0 over HTTP and WebSocket (plus FIX); public methods such as public/get_tradingview_chart_data need no key, and private methods use client-credential tokens. A full test environment runs at test.deribit.com.

Market data you can use without a key

  • public/get_tradingview_chart_data: OHLCV for any instrument (resolution in minutes or 1D).
  • public/get_instruments: listed options and futures with strikes and expiries.
  • public/ticker: mark price, implied volatility and Greeks for an option.
  • public/get_order_book: depth for any instrument.

AlgoGP reads Deribit candles for BTC/USD and ETH/USD from the perpetuals (BTC-PERPETUAL, ETH-PERPETUAL).

Rate limits

Deribit uses credit-based limits per sub-account, with stricter limits on some methods (for example instrument queries over WebSocket). Back off on error 10028 too_many_requests.

Use Deribit in AlgoGP

Open a project, go to the APIs & keys tab and, under Platforms, pick Deribit as the market data source (market_data.py). The choice is saved to config.json as a new strategy version:

{
  "platforms": {
    "data": "deribit",
    "broker": "alpaca"
  }
}
In-app backtests always use AlgoGP’s normalized history so results stay comparable; this choice decides what backtest.py and live.py connect to when you run the exported code.

Deribit needs no API key: the generated code calls its public endpoints directly.
